Questland, Queen’s College are Lagos U-17 chess champions

chessStudents of Questland College and Queen’s College dominated the senior and junior categories of the Lagos State U-17 chess tournament, which ended at the weekend at the Sports Bar of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

With six and half points and 36 and half BH, Questland’s Patrick Greg took the shine off 71 other senior students to win the senior event of the two-day competition. Monja Ifeoluwa of Lifespring School and Olowe Iyanu of Questland College came second and third respectively.

The junior category was won by Fadairo Dunbarin of Queen’s College with five points and 16 BH.

Tokede Kehinde and Bailey Daniel, both of Questland College, came second and third respectively.

Interestingly, out of 21 schools; 15 senior and six junior, Questland and Queen’s Colleges were outstanding with more students that made the Top 10 in the winners list.

In the Top 10 list in junior category, Queen’s College won four slots, while Questland and Cayley Colleges took three and two respectively.

In the senior category, four of Questland College’s students made the Top 10, while Lifespring College took two.

Winner in the senior category, Greg described his match with the second place winner, Ifeoluwa as the toughest on his road to the stardom. He called on the Sports Commission to organize more of the age grade tournaments, as there are hidden chess talents in Lagos schools.

The winners in both categories were presented with brand new laptops, school bags, maths sets. Second place winners got chess clocks, maths sets and school bags. Third positions were given chess sets, books, maths sets and school bags.
