Sunshine Stars suspend Odunlami for allegedly ‘disappearing’
Glo Nigeria Premier league table toppers, Sunshine Stars of Akure, have suspended Super Eagles’ defender, Kunle Odunlami, for absconding from the team.
According to a letter made available to The Guardian, Sunshine Stars said Odunlami, who is reported to have joined a Moroccan team, left the team in Asaba without permission from officials of the club.
The letter reads: “Mr. Kunle Odunlami it will be recalled absconded and abandoned the team at Asaba, Delta State, on the way to honour a Week 14 match of the Glo Premier League against Rangers of Enugu on Sunday, June 28, 2015 without any official permission from the club.
“We later learnt that he traveled to Morocco to engage in talks with Raja Casablanca on a possible transfer.”
The club said they have reported the involvement of “Mr. Oluwasegun Jewel, the purported agent of Mr. Odunlami, to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for his lack professionalism in handling the situation. “
They added that they have communicated the case and suspension of Odunlami to the NFF, the League Management Company (LMC), Players Status Arbitration Committee, as well as the TMS Manager of the NFF.
According to the letter signed by Sunshine Stars’ Media Officer, Wahab Bankole, the club has complained against “the illegal approach of the player by Raja Casablanca of Morocco to the appropriate authorities. Raja Casablanca’s action is in breach of Article 18, paragraph 3 of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players: “ a club intending to conclude a contract with a professional must inform the player’s current club in writing before entering into negotiation with him.
A professional shall only be free to conclude a contract with another club if his contract with his present club has expired or is due to expire within six (6) months. Any breach of this provisional shall be subject to appropriate sanction.”
Odunlami is reported to have joined Raja Casablanca after passing medical tests on Tuesday.
