UNIJOS graduates 4,985 students
A TOTAL of 4,985 graduates were conferred with first degree by the University of Jos (UNIJOS), at its 23rd convocation ceremony last week, with nine of them graduating with first class. Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, announced this at the convocation ceremony, which had three state governors and the late chairman of the institution’s Governing Council, Ambassador Ignatius Ajuru, being conferred with honorary doctorate degrees.
The governors were Isa Yuguda of Bauchi, Aliyu Akwei Doma of Nasarawa and Jonah Jang of Plateau State. Tyoden said they were considered for the awards having met the criteria for the honourary doctorate, which include contribution to the development of society, educational development and development of the university itself. He added that Ambassador Ajuru, who was slain by assailants in Port Harcourt some months ago, was being honoured for his contribution to the development of the university when he served as Pro-Chancellor. Tyoden described the convocation as significant in many respects, coming at a time when the university was among the five universities in Nigeria that appeared on the recently released global ranking for universities and was rated number four in the country.
