Council empowers seven unemployed graduates
The Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ajele, Lagos, has presented empowerment tools, worth N700, 000, to unemployed graduates in the council area.
The largesse, according to the council’s Sole Administrator, Mr. Abiola Bashir Are, was meant to bridge the gap and to empower the unemployed youths to make them employable.
He noted that the exercise is one of a series, noting that the council, in the last few months, had trained 30 people on Project Management Professional (PMP), for unemployed engineering graduates and workshop for 27 unemployed Social Science and Business Degree Graduates.
“Young people from families of modest means face a “Catch 22” phenomenon, due to inequality in our society, without an impactful education, they are condemned to a life of poor prospects. Thus, the gap between aspiration and reality gets wider due to inequality and opportunity. Inequality weakens our national economy; it lowers demand for products and services and by extension lowers prospect of new jobs,” Are stated.
While thanking their partners, the sole administrator said three companies have tentatively agreed to absorb six of the 10 PMP trainees for six months paid internship.
