Urja Foundation celebrates Easter with children

Urja Foundation School, Ilupeju, Lagos, recently celebrated Easter in a memorable way, as it donated to students food items including rice, cash, tomatoes, and cartons of groundnut oil, among others to put smiles on the children’s faces and that of their parents.

The event was also aimed at fostering togetherness among teachers and parents of the school. The children entertained guests with dancing, singing and choreography.

Chairperson of Urja Foundation, Mrs. Rukhi Mitra, said the event was to mark Easter, as well as give gifts to some students that performed excellently in the last school exams.

She said: “We celebrate the students that did very well during exams, so that they will know the value of hard work in terms of reading their books and paying attention to their studies.

“We engage our students in different games, because they have different talents. Through the games, they can become clear, know and choose appropriate careers that will enable them become successful and fulfilled in future. So, we engage them in such games as football, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, and volleyball, among others.”

Mitra explained that the school usually celebrates three festive periods in a year. These are Christmas, Independence Anniversary and Easter, all of which help to improve the children’s abilities physically, mentally and spiritually.

“Parents should take good care of their children, by giving priority to their education and general well-being. They should also avoid child abuse. Some parents abuse their children, by engaging them in hard labour, such as hawking. In severe cases, some parents even collaborate with child traffickers to smuggle out their children. This is very bad, because children need protection, love and guidance from their parents.”
