Winners crowned at schools reading competition

The schools that participated include Alpha Smart Primary Schools, MD Schools, New Oko Oba, Lara Day Primary schools, Ikeja, Eclos School, Ogba, Priesthood Children’s School, Abulegba, Bethel Gemini Primary School, Ogba, Anchor Academy, Hebron High School Ogba, Tofek College, Abulegba, Manre Private School, Ogba and Solomon Grace Secondary School, Lagos.

The first category of winners, age 7 to 10 includes 8-year old Uche Chidalu Emmanuela of Priesthood Children’s School, Jacinta Balogun of Bethel Gemini Primary School, who is also eight years Old and Mercy Ofuman of Mamre Private School, also eight years old.

The second category (11to 14 years) winners are Joan Okafor of Lara day Primary school, 10 years old, Gift Ibhafidon of Hebron high School, 11 years old and Adanna Ugwu of Solomon Grace Secondary school, also 11 years winning for the first time. Third category (14 to 18 years) winners emerged from Eclos Private School.

The include Ajisafe Iyanu Emmanuel, Osanyingbemi Seun Olamide and Nwoko Emmanuel. The first and second prize winners in each category went home with N30,000 and N20,000 while the third prize winners in each category went home with products from Bestman Games, Rage for Change from LEAP Africa. The total cash prize won was N150,000. The winners also had books worth N80, 000 donated to their school libraries.

Sponsors of the event include Elizade Toyota, LEAP Africa, Bestman Games, Gazzel Academy, Leaoani Fashion, Banyantree Consulting and Sophies Cateries. Directors of Craigmind, organisers of the competition, Messrs Charles Umeh and Okechukwu Leon, said the reading competition was successful because of the support they received and said they looked forward to next year’s event.
