Yellow House wins at First Greenwich Inter-house sports

While Red House took the lead in the march past and left other Houses behind, Yellow House, however, maneouvered to catch up and even lifted the overall winning trophy at the 4th bi-annual Inter-house Sports Competition of First Greenwich Schools, held at Nigeria Airforce Base, Shasha, Lagos.

Parents, friends and well-wishers were around to cheer the athletes in the various events, such as 75 and 100 metres race for boys and girls, filling the basket, picking balls, filling bottle, dress to school, skipping, slippers race and bursting the balloon, among others.

The school Proprietress, Mrs. Folashade Rebecca Ogunkolati explained that her school aims at raising a total child that can compete in any dimension— academically, morally, physically and spiritually, adding that sports is also essential to building a child physically.

She said: “Today, we unite in our goal to raise champions who will defy limitations, set and exceed expectations, and cruise past the finish line ahead of their counterparts already setting the stage for the next generation.”

She also underscored the importance of sports as part of human culture, noting that in Nigeria, we get involved in physical activities in various forms from childhood. Hence, it becomes necessary to encourage children to develop interest in active sports for them to grow physically and mentally.

While naming several professions related to sports to include football, running and jumping, among others, she advised parents to allow their wards to engage in sports as all work and no play makes Jack/Jill a dull boy/girl.

She declared the school’s intention to actively participate in sports competition internally and externally.

“It is our dream, henceforth, at First Greenwich Schools to produce global competitors that would bring glory to our country,” she said.
